Observations on the Selectmen’s meeting to discuss the June 30 Special Town Meeting with only one article

1. Funniest statement of the evening was Chairman Dave Nelson at the start saying “We’ll let Town Meeting decide

2. The price is up to 1.5 million when repairs are included

3. No one asked questions about the purchase price other than, “looks okay”. Gustus said the price is now 1.400,000 instead of 1,490,000. 6% reduction

4. Discussion about how it will be used vs preserved.   Are we preserving it or just buying it and it will sit as is.

5. We will pay for it via, partially from land sales from the homes around the pre-school on Salem Street and new revenue from Market Street.

6. The land sales from Salem Street were supposed to be used to pay off the 12 million dollar Reedy Meadow, but have now been used:

  1. for Reedy Meadow
  2. partially to pay for the 8.7 million for the new fields and now
  3. Being proposed for this 1.5 million purchase.

Great that the sales are being used for 3 things, but the first one still isn’t paid off.

7. Pat Campbell mentioned having an agreement in place on the actual use before town meeting. Else it might be used in way we haven’t imagined

One Response to “Observations on the Selectmen’s meeting to discuss the June 30 Special Town Meeting with only one article”

  1. Alan Says:

Who spends $1.4M without knowing what they will do with their purchase. If they are really interested in improving quality of life in town, the town should use that money to pave the potholes in town.
