Snow emergency declared, Town offices and schools closed

Thursday, January 4, 2018

Town Hall, the Senior Center, the Lynnfield Public Library and Lynnfield Public Schools will be closed on Thursday, January 4, 2018 due to reports of a severe snow emergency. The police and fire departments will be open and snow and ice removal operations will be ongoing throughout the storm.

A winter snow emergency will be in effect on Wednesday night at midnight. The emergency will remain in effect until further notice. Please remove all parked vehicles from streets. They are subject to ticketing and toning. The measure is necessary to ensure that streets can be plowed properly.

For public safety issues, please contact the Police Department at 781-334-3131 or the Fire Department at 781-334-5151. In case of emergency, call 911.

Trash collection will not take place on Thursday, January 4, 2018. Trash collection will resume on Friday for all streets regularly scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday pickup. Due to the volume of stops, some trash scheduled for pickup on Thursday may be picked up on Saturday if the routes are not completed on Friday. Please do not place trash out for collection until Friday morning.

Preparations for a shelter are in place if homes are without power or heat for an extended period. Residents in need of shelter should call the Police Department. If a shelter is opened, notice will be given via the Town website ( and through the Code Red emergency notification system. If you are in need of shelter or emergency services, please notify the police or fire departments.

During the snow emergency, if you must drive, please use caution. Please be patient while Town personnel and contractors complete their snow removal operations. Thank you for your cooperation.
